12 days of job search advice 🎶

The Christmas season is upon us, so are the solid Christmas tunes. 🎶 

Remember the times when you worked in an office full-time and Christmas carols played all day? One part of me misses it and maybe even liked it (in the first 2 days), the other part really doesn't... 

The truth is, a simple example like this makes us reflect on how the world of work has changed. And how we changed with it. Today, we value more flexibility, greater autonomy and greater alignment with our values. Our job expectations have changed... 

As the year draws to a close and December arrives, it's time to pause and reflect. December, a month of conclusions and reflections, offers an opportunity to rethink our priorities and prepare for a new stage of our career. With this in mind, eikko has crafted 12 practical job search tips, inspired by the classic song "12 Days of Christmas," to help you land the role of your dreams in the coming year.

On the first day of Christmas, eikko said to me:

Think about your goals, your priorities 🎯

What do you want to achieve in your career?  What are your short-term and long-term goals? What is important to you in a job? Is it the salary, the company culture, the work-life balance? Do you prefer a fast-paced environment or a more relaxed one?  Do you prefer working in an office or remotely?

Everything starts with a goal in mind. Think about the type of work environment, the culture, the salary that will best suit your needs and aspirations. Once you have a clear understanding of these, you can start to target your job search and identify the positions that are the best fit for you.

Polish your profile, make it relevant

Be yourself, let your personality shine

"Every pot has a lid". Your personality traits align more with some tasks and companies than others. Have a deadline, if you have a job offer on the table

What should I do if I get a job offer, but I am still waiting for feedback for another job I’ve been interviewed for? The answer to this question is simple, you can negotiate a deadline for both companies:

• One deadline for feedback, informing that you have a job offer on the table. This way they have a reason to be quick. 
• And other deadline for giving an answer to the job offer.

On the eleventh day of Christmas, eikko said to me:

Dress professionally, make a good first impression 👞

Your first impression matters, so make sure you dress professionally for your interview. This means wearing clean and ironed clothes, and avoiding anything that is too revealing or distracting. However, if you are being interviewed for a creative job, a more relaxed yet clean might be ok.

On the twelve day of Christmas, eikko said to me:

Stay positive, you'll find your right job

Job searching can be discouraging, but don't give up. Stay positive and keep applying for jobs or, 👉 if you create an account with eikko, just wait for your right role to come in. The right job is out there for you.
